The Continuing Adventures of Desert Dave
It’s over!
Last Time, Baby!
Chances are you’ll never see a Tomcat fly again!
The F-14 Tomcat is retired.
The remaining handful of jets are being flown to their final resting places in museums and displays around the country. If you don’t happen to see one of these delivery flights over the next few weeks, then you’ve already seen your last Tomcat fly.
Today, one of those final flights took place at Palmdale, CA.
She came in, bounced a few times to burn off the gas in the tanks, and then just like that the once mighty fighter jet became a museum piece.
As is tradition, The pilot signed the jet, the RIO signed the jet….
And, of course, the runwayrats zapped the jet!
And as quick as a mach+ pass - it was all over.
Forever.
The roar was silenced.
The burners extinguished.
And with a hydraulic kneel of the nose strut, the “real star of the film Top Gun”
- as airshow announcers liked to call her – took her last bow.
This star had left the sky....
